The University of Zakho has achieved remarkable scientific progress during the current period, with progress in the world and national rankings. This achievement is the result of the efforts of the academic staff of the University, as well as the unlimited support of the President of the University, Assistant Professor Dr. Lazgin Abdi Jameel. It is one of the main reasons that the university has reached this level as the president was constantly updated on the course of the scientific process at the university, scientific research, and documentation of the activities of researchers, and he was always supporting the staff of the University.

According to the Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics), the University of Zakho has progressed compared to the previous year. In 2016, the University was ranked (19046) and on February 2017,it was ranked (16718) but on July 2017, the rank of the university jumped up to record a historical success which is now (13925). In addition to this, the University ranked 32 in Iraq compared to previous year in which it was 39.
